A Street That Breathes Books

 A Street That Breathes Books

If you ever walk through Pul-e-Bagh-e-Umomi in Kabul, you’ll encounter a unique and captivating scene: walls and sidewalks lined with books. This is the famous Pul-e-Bagh-e-Umomi book market — a place filled with the scent of old pages and timeless stories.

This area is one of the oldest book-selling spots in Kabul. Around 40 to 45 years ago, people called it the “Wall of Democracy” because it was a space where ideas flowed freely through books.

Here, you can find a wide range of second-hand and affordable books. However, if you look closely, you might also discover rare and valuable editions—books that have only a few copies left in existence.

What makes this street special is the variety of books on display: history, politics, religion, and more. It’s more than just a sidewalk; it’s a pathway to knowledge.

For many years, Book Street has quietly demonstrated one powerful truth: among all the things we can buy in life, only one has the power to truly change the course of humanity — a book.
